Truth of War Project
Project Reflection:
#1:
For this project we learned about the Truth of War. As a class we learned many different things that were incorporated with war such as the starts of war, the ends of war, fronts that the different sides fought at, the different alliences, we learned about propaganda, and the different resolutions that were made. We read two books for this project: the first book was All Quiet on the Western Front by Remarque, it was about a German soldier in World War One. The other book we read was Slaughterhouse Five by Vonnegut, it was about a soldier in World War Two and the bombing of Dresden. After learing all of the content we were given the task to write an essay and create a project based around the question: What is the truth of war for a soldier?

The Habit of Heart and Mind that I used the most in my project was perseverance. As we were planning out our projects I came up with a great idea to visualy show my perspective, as we got closer and closer to project deadline and exhibition I realized that I might not get my project done in time. I still had lots to do, I had to finish and revise my poem, I had to take pictures and figure out what my collage was going to look like and then finish my project. I decided that all I could do to get my project done was to keep working and get as much as could done. Because of how I persevered I was able to get my project done and have a project that I was proud to show off.

Even though I made a lot of revisions to my essay there were two major revisions I made to make it even better. The first revision was parallel structure, this was a major change that I made to my essay to have it make more sense and to make it more comprehendable for the reader. At first my sentense had different verbs and –ing words to describe different things, which made it confusing, so by changing the verbs and –ing words to make them all agree with eachother it made it soo much more understandable and made it flow better. The other big revision I made was deleting a whole paragraph. The parahgraph that I originally had was just thrown in my essay with the thought process that it would help my reader understand what my paper was stating. But after Lori and my mom critiqued my paper and said that the paragraph was unessasary, I deleted it and it made my paper ten times better and also made it so that my reader wouldn’t get confused.

If I had one more week to work on my project and essay I would deffinitly work on refining both. For my essay I would have refined it by using my grandpas critque ideas and thoughts because I didn’t have time to revise my essay using his critique, Iw ould have also had my other grandpa critique it because he is also really good at critiquing. For my project I would have put more time and effort into my collage by refining it because it could have been a lot better.

Genocide Project
Project Reflection:
1.Project Description:
For this project we had to choose the genocide of our choice from the 20th century. We had to research our choosen genocide in two parts, first part was learning the general overview of what happened and the second part was focusing on a certain aspect of the genocide and the finding primary and secondary sources. Once we had our research done, we sarted to write an Op-Ed about our genocide. We also had to create a political cartoon potraying a certain perspective to go along with our Op-Ed or our genocide.
2.Cartoon Reflection:
My first draft of my final cartoon was not refined at all, it was just a quick sketch of the thoughts I had. I have grown as a cartoonist by making my work looked refined and learning how to draw a 3D box, using a ruler, and adding more detail to my cartoon so that it made more sense and so people could understand what was going on. One way that I refined it to look better was asking Roxy to show me how to draw a 3D box from the top view. Also I made the box look like a cage with bars and barbwire to create a deeer meaning and make it look darker.
3.Op-Ed Reflection:
Writing an Op-Ed was a lot different than other writing I have done, I had to make the paragraph shorter which ment that I couldn’t ramble on and get strait to my point. Also I had to make sure that I covered everything in less than a thousand words. Learning how to write like this will help in my future writing projects because now I will make paragraphs more consies and to the point instead of rambling on like I normaly do.
